Our experience at Rice barn so far (because we're still here!), has been fantastic, to say the least. The thing that is the most comforting about being here, are the hosts themselves, Alastair and Nok. Very easy going, and down to Earth, and great to sit and talk to. Yes, the accommodations and the surrounding garden are beautiful and serene; and yes, it's wonderful living more in rural environs, away from the frenzy that is Chiang Mai city; but it's the people, every single time, that make our experience something memorable, and exceptional. We are not into empty site seeing, and taking pictures of temples; we love to get to know people, who actually live here, or wherever we travel, on a deeper level, so we understand why we travel in the first place. Kudos also go out to the housekeeper 'Noh' who is really laid back, and has a great disposition. But, I understand, some people want to know the details, so here we go. The room itself, is lovely, and big, comfortable, and clean. It has furniture in it, and art, that gives it that personal touch, especially because the owners designed it. The bed is huge, and I'm finally getting the rest and relaxation I've been missing, these past two months traveling in South East Asia. We have the use of a communal kitchen, where we can make food, and has everything you need in case you get hungry (if that's possible in Thailand). The kitchen looks out over the garden, and pool, that is inviting you to jump into, on these hot summer days. The Grounds offer many seating options and nooks to just hang out, and read, or have a cat nap. The animals here, as well, are something I really enjoy: the two dogs, the ducks, the love birds, and a rabbit. All I hear in the morning when I wake up, are the sound of chimes, and birds, and that's it. The countryside is breathtaking, and there are little places to eat, or have coffee, all over the place, in these back roads, so you never have to go out onto the highway, to get food, if you choose not to. We are surrounded by Thais here, as well; which is something I always wanted to do - just hang out, and see how the Thais live - which always have an easy smile on their faces - something that I never tire of. We're looking forward to the rest of out stay here - six more days (originally 3), and taking advantage of this serene environment, to catch up on good conversation, and an easy lifestyle. I give Alastair and Nok the highest rating, and hope those who come and stay here, have as much fun and deserved relaxation as we have had, so far!

"BEAUTIFUL HOME BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE"
If you want to get away from the crowds and hustle and bustle of city life then the Rice Barn and Rooms are a dream come true. Al and Nok are two extraordinary people who look after you so well you don't want to leave.
We stayed here for our UK winter and used it as a base for a 10 week adventure to explore Northern Thailand and due mainly to the location and Al and Nok, it was an outstanding success . The Rice Barn, when we were not exploring, was the perfect place to chill out reading or exploring the beautiful garden that Nok tends every morning before anyone has stirred from their bed. The bird song wakes you and not the sound of traffic on the roads. The ducks, rabbits, fish and dogs keep you amused if you have nothing better to do than sitting and soaking up the quiet surroundings.
You need transport and Al has two scooters for hire at competitive prices. There are also push bikes available free for getting about the local area where you can eat or shop in local market shops.The internet was upgraded during our stay and the service has improved 100% over the whole property. If you are in Chiang Mai this place is not to be missed and if we are ever back in Thailand we would not stay anywhere else. Al and Nok were the perfect host who we look forward to see again..

"LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT"
We booked both Double Rooms in Al and Nok's stunning house and loved every second of it. The rooms are not as pictured...they are 100 times better!! Clean, spacious, decorated beautifully, they get lots of sunlight and cool breeze throughout the day. You get every comfort needed in a room and much more. The shared kitchen was always stocked with all the breakfast necessities. The garden is stunning and alive with birds chirping, a rabbit, dogs and geese yet remain very very serene and relaxing after a day spent in Chiang Mai. The house is located outside the main attractions and downtown Chiang Mai so you will need a car, or rent a motorcycle, whenever you need to go out. But it's only 15 minutes away and we were glad to come back to our slice of paradise away from the hustle and bustle. Al and Nok are lovely people; caring, discreet, generous and always making sure we feel at home (Al even drove us to the airport at 5 in the morning!! Thanks again, Al!) We always felt at home and welcome! Thank you again, Al and Nok!

Alastair and Nok are two wonderful people with such a beautiful home. They were incredibly welcoming and even helped arrange for a car to take us another residence in Chiang Mai despite it being after our arranged check-out time. The rooms were clean and they provided us with eggs for breakfast. Alastair even let us borrow his bike to go to the Grand Canyon (make sure to ask about this!). Alastair helped recommend events for our stay and within the span of 2 days me friend and I went to an ATV park, bungee jumping, rafting, waterfall swimming, elephant riding, a tiger petting, and we visited a temple. I would definitely recommend the elephant riding tour.

"This place was amazing!"
The "rice barn" was great. It's pretty much a house with some open spaces. The bedroom is closed off and has AC, but everything else is out in the open, the kitchen, dinner table, bathroom, and living room. All the other bedrooms have AC and their own bathroom. They also have a nice pool. Alastair is an amazing host. 10/10 recommend. He helped by calling taxis and tour guides for us. Also when getting a taxi back I just gave the taxi drivers his number and he gave them directions. Him and his wife were there when we needed their help, but they also gave us our privacy. Think of it as staying at a villa and the host is pretty much your neighbour.

"Good recommendations"
We had a great stay at Alastair and Nok's house. It felt like being with old friends! They were both very friendly and accommodating. They both know a lot about Chiang Mai so had good recommendations for where to go as well. Since we were their first guests, they were eager to learn lessons and improve on any aspect of our stay. That said there was not much from our perspective to improve. They have a beautiful house with a lot of open space. There is a beautiful fire place and we had great nights sitting out there and talking.The rice barn is great space for a 2 people and the extra rooms perfect for us. There are great amenities and they have basically everything you need. The kitchen has everything one needs. The location is great for those wanting to be a bit out of town and have peaceful stay. Yet, it is close to major sites like Doi Suthep, Night safari and Rajapreuk garden. Would recommend this stay for families and anyone wanting to stay in a unique Chiang Mai setting. WE will definitely use it again if we come to Chiang Mai. Thanks a lot Alastair and Nok!

My husband and I decide to take our wedding photos in Chiang Mai. A lovely lady Pier pick us up from the Airport. We received a very warm welcome from Ali & Nok when we arrived to their home. The house is very beautiful, you have everything that you need in here. Also you can rent a motorcycle from Ali to travel around the city or you can call a taxi from Ali too. "Flowers that smell heavenly"
Our host were very friendly. We had a great time it's such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. They have little ducks that run around in the morning and three sweet dogs that welcome u.The owners designed and make all the furniture you see it's amazing loved it. There are hammocks and chairs everywhere running water and flowers that smell heavenly. I was provided with fresh fruit of the tree every morning and Thai coffee was superb.Was great !!

The house is located in the suburban district of Chiang Mai, it took us quite a long time to find because the tutu driver didn't know the address. Al and his wife were very nice. And fortunately their dogs don't bite. The house is very big and the rooms are spacious. Al prepared bread, eggs and milk in the fridge in the rice barn for us to cook so we can make breakfast ourselves. We had a great time in Rice Barn.

"Pond fish and sunshine"
We had a wonderful stay in Ali's beautiful home and garden. The photos are exactly the same in real. Our 1.5 year old baby loves the garden so much, the pond, the fish, the sunshine and green grass. The host couple are so nice and easy going to share many information that we need. Al even taught my husband to ride motorbike. The five days in this B&B will forever keep in my memory. Ali&nok design of the room is so wonderful, very clean and convenient. Ali is very gentle, nok is very beautiful. They are kindly and helpful. We are enjoy our times here and chat together. If you are looking for an accommodation at this part (Hang Dong) of Chiang Mai, its a wonderful place in peace and serenity.But you need your own transportation. Garden is beautiful, public relations staff Jordie and Mac are excellent. Only problem was the slow wi-fi which was not under control of our hosts. We had a very good time and would like to go back as quick as possible and highly recommend to everybody.

This was our first airbnb experience. We were very lucky to stay in this nice Rice Barn. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Ali waited for two hours to pick up us at the airport when we arrived in Chiang Mai, and got up early at 4:00 am to drive us to fly back home. Thank you so much! Nok was very kind to take us to the local market so we can experience the real local life. She also cooked delicious Thai food that was the best we had in Chiang Mai. A real home away home stay, highly recommended.

We really had a nice stay Alastair and Nok's place. Firstly, the hosts Alastair and Nok are quite warmhearted. I still can remember the other night. We had a barbecue party, and Nok prepared a lot for us. I really appreciate that. Shared stories with each other, we were like a family, though we are from different part of the world. Secondly, the house itself is quite lovely and clean. If you want to incorporate into the peaceful and slow life of Chiang Mai, I would highly recommend their house. :)

Ali and Nok gave us great help!It took sometime to go to the old town, but Ali drove us to the road and we could easily take taxi! We also love three dogs, the little rabbits and the ducks! The best villa I have ever stayed, feels just like at my home. Every morning I wake up with the birds singing and every night go to bed with a clear sky full of stars. It's really an extraordinary experience to walk around the beautiful yard love the puppies Max and Jessie who is always sad:) It's also very convenient to rent motorbike directly here. We were extremely fortunate to be hosted by Ali and Nok (and their dogs, rabbits, ducks and birds!) during our stay in Chiang Mai. They were superlative hosts; kind, welcoming, and saw to all needs that they possibly could. We even enjoyed their company for dinner several nights; make sure to ask for their rec's for their favorite local Thai place in town. One of the best meals I have had in some time. The rooms were clean, the garden spacious and relaxing, and the kitchen sufficient for all of your needs. Stock up at Rimping or the local Hangdong market and you may not even need to leave to eat. One caveat is that you will have to pay for a driver for any trips as the house is 20-30 minutes from the city center.

My husband Dennis and I had a wonderful stay at the Rice Barn. Ali and Nok were excellent hosts and the Rice Barn was fantastic - just be aware of the low beams in the lower level if you are tall (just duck a bit). Ali picked us up at the airport, stopped so we could get a few provisions and he and Nok made sure we had fruit for breakfast, eggs, bread and milk. The driver they arranged for us was excellent and we enjoyed exploring Chiang Mai. The grounds are beautiful and are a peaceful place to unwind and relax.Thanks Ali and Nok.

Ali's rice barn is a very good place to have a vacation. Me and my friend really enjoy sitting on the balcony. The room is very clean and there is a beautiful garden. Basically I love greenery, tranquility, spaces, artistic design, simple but warm.....Rice barn delivered it.

By the way, we even had a good time laying in the garden at night, looking at the stars, chit-chatting while waiting for the falling stars on 15 December. We got it and we hope our wishes would come true :-) A word of reminder : it is a bit further from the town center, just be prepared on the transportation expenses which can be managed via the helps of Ali or even utilize the public transports.Thanks Ali and Nok! "Very comfortable"
The Double Room was very comfortable and the shower/bathroom attached was more than accommodating. Alastair and his wife were both wonderful and we all made great conversation. The property is gorgeous and has everything you need.. even fresh duck eggs! Al can arrange transportation for your every needs. I would highly recommend this experience to any of my friends and family.

It was great coming back to see Alastair and Nok after a year. The stay was just as good as last time and it was good see that they are attracting a lot of guests. Alastair and Nok definitely have great experience after a year of hosting people and it showed in terms of how they were able to manage guests coming in and out. We always enjoy are stay at their place and will be coming back in the future. Would recommend this stay for anyone who is mobile and wants to see a bit of Thai life in Chiang Mai.

Sending wishes to the sky
"New Year's countdown"
The room is nice and comfortable, with a clean and spacious wash room. Al and Nok celebrated the New Year's count down with us, and gave us the unforgettable experience of sending wishes to the sky through the traditional lights and beautiful fireworks. And in the morning, we enjoyed the delicious breakfast and don't even mention the sunshine and so many little cute creatures in the garden.

The rice barn was such a fabulous place for leisure time. Besides Al & Nok's friendly hosting, the rice barn itself was quiet and cosy, at night it was cool and the fan can do for daytime. Since the rice barn is not that close to the town, 20 min by car, renting a car at the domestic airport is recommended. Beautiful home and surroundings. Lovely hosts. Cute dogs. This is the best AirBnb experience my wife and I have had yet! We originally came for 2 nights and planned to move on after, but we loved it so much we decided to stay as long as we could. Al and Nok have been super accommodating and have helped us feel right at home. I've worked in Hospitality and the little details and the quality and care put forth is quite remarkable. If you have a chance to stay here take it. There's easy airport access and you're away from the loud city and congestion. This is quite a gem of a place!

Ali's place is absolutely fantastic, room is spacious and clean. The dogs are cute, Jessie and Max stayed in front of our room at the first night. They liked making friends with people. Jordie is the boss but she's nice too. There are also ducks, birds and rabbit...a small farm in a beautiful garden. Ali is so kind to arrange a taxi driver for us and if you need his advice about Chiangmai. He's welcomed to do so. My family stayed there for 3 nights and we enjoyed so much. We wish we could stay a little bit longer and to explore more about the beauty of ChiangMai looking forward to the new rice barn. We would definitely come back and highly recommend to friends.

The experience in rice barn is excellent. Wonderful view, peaceful environment, detailed decoration and funny doggies, all of them make the memory there unforgettable. Kind driver Nina also offers much more convenience so that we have a fabulous sightseeing in Chiang Mai. Everything are equipped and well prepared. Highly recommend.

It's a lovely place very quite cozy and comfortable.Ali and Nok are friendly and provide everything they (website hidden) is a little far away from the city but convenient to anywhere by motorbike or taxi.We love it so much.

I stayed here for one week and just didn't want to leave cause everything were so nice.There are so many lovely things. Quiet garden, clever dogs, having a swim anytime you want. And it even can be an awesome private office (I just finished my short term jobs here). September

It's a wonderful place, Ali and his cute wife were so nice and thoughtful.Really so enjoyed the five days just seating around the beautiful garden and play with two dogs, everything was just perfect as we expected, and yes we're well rested before we get back home, we'll remember this wonderful trip and maybe come back again someday. thank you. AL and Nok are what make Airbnb what it is . They made our trip to Thailand so memorable. We could not believe how heart warming and welcoming they were. They had everything so well organized for us, and made it so convenient for our trip to Chiang Mai. I would recommend AL, Nok "Jessie and Geordie" to absolutely anyone looking to have an unforgettable stay in Chiang Mai. "Getaway from the crowd"

I've been longing for a getaway from the crowd and noise for a long time. Dream came true at Rice Barn and Rooms. Not sure if it's protected by tree shadows but our room stays cool most of the time, AC is only needed in the afternoon

when it gets very hot outside. The whole place is simply lovely and gorgeous. Same for our hosts Al and Nok! Everyday we woke up naturally in bird songs and start out fresh in the country side. You'll need a motor bike to get around to Cafes, restaurants and markets, which is available for rent on site. Also, we were both working remotely during our stay and highly dependent on internet speed. And the connection turned out to be superb thanks to the recent upgrade of network service. I'm sure we'll revisit some time."

Alastair and Nok's Rice Barn was a pure sanctuary for my wife and I during our stay in Chiang Mai. Note that the house IS not in Chiang Mai, but Hang Dong, and it takes about 30 minutes by motorbike to get to the Old City. That said, if you don't mind motorbiking (in which case I highly recommend renting from Alastair--his bikes are in good condition and well maintained), you would be hard pressed to find a more tranquil and relaxing home near Chiang Mai.We were so comfortable and felt well taken care of by Al and Nok.

The Rice Barn is very unique and you can wake up to the sound of birds, rather than city noises. There are even ducks and dogs are also there to keep you company in the huge grounds that are full of lounging areas.Highly recommended!

I highly recommend the rice barn and rooms. Our hosts were very helpful and went out of their way to make our short stay the best possible. There is a motorcycle you can rent for the day and it's an easy venture into the city, even coming back at night was no problem.

If you don't have a vehicle and will be planning to go in and out of town frequently you will have to pay more for transportation. But, for our short stay it was worth it for the unique experience. Will definitely stay again.

"The rice barn is a really nice place for couples! I think my parents had a great time there! The house is not close to the city. I highly recommend you to rent motorbikes to travel in the city, if you know how to ride it. The motorbike in Chiangmai is quite different from Chinese one, so does the traffic rules. Make sure you can handle it before renting from AI. If you can't, no worries. AI can help book a full day car and arrange the trip basing on your interests. AI and Nok are very good hosts! Our stay at the Rice Barn and Rooms was first class. From the moment we arrived the hosts Ali and Nok made us feel right at home. The setting is beautiful - the Rice Barn is naturally the centerpiece but even stopping in one of the rooms you can still avail yourself of the grounds in which to relax. All the rooms have access to a good kitchen.

We liked it so much we stayed two extra days. The location requires transport to reach Chiang Mai and all the major attractions, however there are mopeds available to rent at the premises, pedal bikes to go to a number of local shops and cafes, and the hosts organized us a friendly driver at a good rate; .

this made life much easier and we benefited greatly from not having to go through the daily hassle of bartering for transport - without a doubt worth the supplement you pay for the personal driver. Chiang Mai centre is about a 15-20 min drive away.

The tranquil location and friendly atmosphere amongst hosts and all guests made the Rice Barn a great place to come back to after a day out, and also to simply spend a day relaxing, reading a book and watching the ducks go about their business. BTW the duck eggs are fantastic... Our hosts also told and showed us where some of the local markets, restaurants and shops were located which allowed us to see a bit more of the real Thailand. If we return to Chiang Mai, we will without a doubt return here.

Above and beyond the norm! Felt very welcome :-) Ducks and dogs walking around, loungers so comfortable, nice kitchen, spacious and clean room. Helped us with food on the first night and more (salt pepper, eggs,, milk and more really appreciated)! Scooter was powerful - there was a jacket in the seat and that was very thoughtful! Kept us warm when we needed it :-) The road into central has a side lane you can use most of the way into town - it took us around 30mins so you can go countryside but also town quiet easily with scooter at a reasonable price. The rice barn was one of the highlights of our trip! Al was very accommodating, the place was amazing, his dogs were very sweet, the rice barn & extra room were very clean. This was a home away from home, we looked forward to coming back each day after a busy day in the city, we will be coming back!!

First of all this has been hands down the best place I've ever stayed. Upon arrival we were greeted by Nok, she has beautiful energy. Then Al greeted us and gave us all the recommendations of what to do during our stay and he nailed it. Btw, don't bother buying coffee anywhere else, Al's coffee is the best in all of Thailand. The place was very charming and clean, it's a great place to relax after your activities. It has everything You need, kitchen, beers, water and small shops nearby. This place exceded our expectations. Thanks a lot Al and Nok, we'll be back to your place but for a longer stay:)

Wir hatten eine wunderschone Woche hier. Haben zuerst fur 4 Tage gebucht aber weil es so toll war sind wir gleich noch zwei Tage langer geblieben. Al und Nok sind wundervolle Gastgeber. Sie halfen uns beim planen unserer Touren und gaben uns Tipps. Wir haben gehort das der Norden Thailands wunderschon sein soll und die beiden haben es perfekt gemacht. Die liebsten und nettesten Gastgeber seit wir mit airbnb reisen. Vielen Dank fur alles und wir kommen ganz sicher wieder . Lena & Alex.
