Itinerary

We will pick you up from The Rice Barn and drive a short distance where we choose our bicycles. We will ride along quiet country roads passing rice fields, local villages and beautiful views until we reach Baan Tawai village, a community known for its wood sculptures. We can take a look around at markets and interact with wood carvers.

The area we will pass through today is a very fertile area due to the proximity of the river. Virtually everything grows here. We will see lots of fruit trees and taste some of the fruit in season. Dominant in this area are Longan plantations, in Thai called Lamyai. We will cycle through endless plantations. Your guide will explain about the many sorts of fruit that grow around here. We will stop several times along the way to meet local people. We will stop at local temples and markets until we reach McKean Rehabilitation Center, a former leprosy colony, now dedicated to the help of disadvantaged and needy people. We cycle over the McKean compound and admire the centuries old trees.

After that we continue our way and we reach the temple ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, the former capital of Lanna, we will visit some of the most interesting ruins of this fascinating city and learn more about the rich cultural background of Chiang Mai. From here we slowly enter the city center where we prickle our senses in the Chinatown market halls, see the local flower and vegetable market where our guide explains about all the different herbs and vegetables used for the famous Thai cuisine..
